Las Vegas, NV – September 7, 2015 – – A free ride to a college or university is what most parents are hoping for their soon-to-be high school graduates, and Coach Dion Lee is showing them the way!!  Having been a student on athletic scholarship at CSULB, he knows the discipline and hard work it takes to be recognized among the elite athletes in the country.  You may remember Dion A. Lee as an advocate and supporter of women and girl’s football as he made big waves in the world of women’s tackle football as owner and head coach of the Las Vegas Showgirlz from 2005-2014.  He has demonstrated exemplary achievement and dedication towards bringing awareness and notoriety to an underdog sport such as women’s football and has paved the way for future growth with the adoption of girl’s flag football in all Nevada high schools as a legitimate varsity sport.

As the movement for girls in football has begun to grow legs, there is still much work to do for scholarships to be offered at the college level.  Coach Lee has seen a need and demand to help athletes in other sports as well who actually want an opportunity to attend college on full scholarship! Las Vegas Showgirlz has switched gears to create several AAU Girls Basketball teams and College Showcases to help them develop advanced playing skills, and to mold them into the model citizens of a great student and athlete beyond high school!

Six unsigned Seniors were recruited after having much success from their first showcase this past June.  Giving recognition to Jasmyn Rodriquez (Sunrise HS ’14) and Dajsia Blackshire (Las Vegas HS ’15) who will be attending Cuesta College, Whykeiia Haley (Sunrise HS ’15) and Dejunique Jerrries (Sunrise HS ’15) who will be attending Taft College, Jada Williams (Las Vegas HS ’15) who will be attending Victor Valley College, and Atajma Criss-Felton (Chaparral HS ’15) who will be attending Central Wyoming College.

Coach Lee will be hosting the second Pre-Season College Showcase being held at Reynolds Boys and Girls Club in Henderson on October 10th from 9am-7pm.    Girls basketball coaches from Division 2 and 3 colleges and universities as well as junior colleges will be there to scout and recruit young women for scholarship opportunities.  They are accepting girls in grades 9-12 to attend this all-day event.  This will be a camp and combine which will give each player a profile packet which will include player height, weight, measurements, position, stats, GPA, and SAT/ACT scores to hand out to recruiters.  Additional perks will be mentoring from former college basketball players and position coaches, NCAA clearing house, Showcase T-shirts, and the chance to prove their skills in head-to-head competition amongst their peers.

Coach Lee’s passion is to create change through sports and he believes that every athlete could have the potential to earn a free education if they have the focus, determination, and commitment to study hard and practice even harder on something they love to do…BALL!!  He states, “it’s not just about having the perfect jump shot or grace on the court, but attitude and discipline that’s going to get them where they want to be in life!  Parents need to invest in their children’s success by getting involved with their academics and extracurricular activities as well.”
